Stöckli Scale Delta review 2018

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

With 83 mm underfoot, Stöckli's Scale Delta is extremely versatile. Its progressive flex and width at the waist mean that it performs well on all terrains. Snow contact is excellent. The ski couldn’t care less about choppy snow and cuts through irregular terrain like butter. After a few turns, you quickly realise that the Scale Delta responds to a touch and is incredibly tolerant and docile. Turn initiation is intuitive, and steering is reliable and reassuring. Pushed to its limits at high speed, the ski remains calm, holding perfectly tight to its trajectory. "Pure bliss!" one of the reviewers beamed. On the other hand, it falls a little short on hard pack where pressure is less incisive, especially compared to the Dynastar or the Nordica. Compared to an ordinary ski, the Scale Delta is a bit like a luxury 4-wheel drive in relation to a standard car: easy to drive, versatile, fast, comfortable ...and expensive! At €900 euros the pair of skis alone, it’s certainly not for everyone. Nonetheless, it’s an excellent product that we recommend for riders looking for both the versatility of an all mountain ski and the performance of a piste ski.

Manufacturer's remarks

Between 81 and 84 mm underfoot, the Delta is the widest of the Scale range (All Mountain line). Its relatively short radius allows riders to slice turns as easily as a piste ski. With its "Powder Rocker" technology, it’s glides incredibly easily over fresh powder. It’s a truly versatile tool that demands a bit of physical effort for pure piste runs.

Delta

Just ridden this ski for a week and it really is incredible. Handled everything and all conditions with ease. A real gem.

Awesome front-side and in-bounds trees

I have to disagree with the review's assessment of hard-snow performance. This ski is absolutely confidence inspiring in all but the deepest snow conditions. On hard snow (if you've got good technique, and have patience during turn initiation), the grip is simply unreal ... almost rising to the level of a race-tuned slalom ski. Sure, it won't be tight, short-radius turns on the hardest stuff, but if you can match its natural turn radius, it's absolutely tenacious on the hard stuff. Maybe one of the best front-side/all-mountain skis I've ridden. I use this ski in New England where the conditions can vary from knee-deep powder to skating rink, and I've found it just sublime in all of it. It just quietly gets the job done. Damp and quiet when it's hard and icy, super responsive on packed-powder/groomers, and very capable in the softer stuff and the trees, dominating in the bumps. I'd prefer something a bit wider under-foot for a powder day or for more back-country excursions, but as a "one ski quiver", this ski can do it all with style and ask for more.

Stockli Scale Delta 2018

I’ve been using a 167cm (r15) ski for 3 years. The former amateur-athlete and have problems with my knees. I’ve tuned the base -1(89 angle) and on the side - 3 (87 angle) degrees, bindings set on the solid-stiff platform. With these tuning ski allows you to ride in the radius from 14 m (very hard snow), up to 20m (all snow) without problem and serious loads on your knees. If you only need one ski for everything, that's what you're looking for.
