Rossignol S 86 review 2011

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

The Rossignol S86 is a really excellent freeride initiation ski and is suitable for intermediary to good skiers looking for a user-friendly and enjoyable tool that will help them progress both on and off piste. Expert freeriders and the more aggressive will probably prefer a more technical ski.

Review: Pros

  • The Rossignol S86 is a highly accessible ski, undemanding, docile, enjoyable and reassuring on the pistes. It displays excellent ski/snow contact and good stability. Off-piste, the S80 remains friendly, fun and reassuring. It's remarkably stable and happy on all kinds of terrain, including bumpy surfaces.

Review: Cons

  • The S86 is a flexible ski, making it accessible and enjoyable up to medium speeds, but limiting performance at higher speeds and on hard snow.

Manufacturer's remarks

The S86 has the heart of a high-performance carving machine with a freeride touch and feel. It features Rossignol\'s unique camber profile, \"AmpTek\". AmpTek Freeride, combines traditional camber underfoot delivering power, energy and edge grip with an early rise tip and tail that dramatically improves the turn initiation and flotation in any condition. This all-mountain ski is perfectly balanced for ripping rail-to-rail on the groomers. With its wide waist, it floats through powder and crud with the best of any backcountry ski. With titanium sandwiched around a wood core, this is a good skier's dream-come-true. If you are looking for a rocking, all-mountain freeride ski that shines anywhere on the hill, the SC86 is the right choice for you.
